In 1910, the schools of Montesca and Rovigliano participated in the Universal and International Exposition in Brussels, showcasing their innovative educational approach to a global audience. This initiative, born from the pioneering vision of Alice Hallgarten Franchetti, aimed to spark international interest in a complex and forward-thinking educational project designed for the children of mostly illiterate Umbrian farmers.

The 2024 exhibition Alice in Brussels celebrates this award-winning model of progressive rural education, which captured the attention of leading figures in the field — including Maria Montessori who, in 1909, dedicated her Method to Alice and Leopoldo Franchetti, and Giuseppe Lombardo Radice, who introduced several innovations developed in Alice's schools into elementary education across the Kingdom of Italy.
